Monthly wine pairings, new ales and more on tap

Ye Olde Brothers Brewery is expanding its horizon and several changes are on tap for the future as well.

Navarre’s first craft brewery, located 6 miles north of U.S. 98 at 4485 Highway 87, is now holding monthly wine pairings.

“We’ve teamed up with Zimmerman Imports out of Destin,” events coordinator Cynthia Brewer said. “The pairings involve four-course meals and four different wines.”

The event began in December, with the first one drawing 18 people. The last one brought in 42.

The next three are May 24th, June 20th and July 19th. The May wine pairing will have a Spanish theme while the June event will center on wines mostly from Europe. A Salute to America theme is on the slate for the July 19th wine pairing.

The wine pairings begin at 6:30 p.m. each month. Tickets cost $35 and are all pre-sold at the brewery as a limited amount are available.

The brewery also held its first beer competition called the Emerald Coast Spring Break Challenge. It took place in early April and featured 78 home brewers. The judges for the competition were home brewers also.

Ben Ross of Pensacola was the winner. His reward for the victory is the opportunity to have his Blonde Pump-kin Wheat Beer featured on the brewery’s tap this fall.

Speaking of new beers, a Honey Badger Belgian Blonde and Old Blue Belgian Pale Ale began flowing from the tap last week. The brewery, one of only four in the area, now has eight of its own beers on tap.

A contest is underway to name the next beer the brewery puts on tap. It will be an American Amber Ale and people have until April 30 to submit a name for the con-test. Submissions can be sent to

Plans are also in place with-in the next month to install a smoker. The concrete has already been poured for it.
“We will be able to start smoking our own meat and add that to our menu. It will be another specialty to our repertoire,” Brewer said.

Tiffany Ory, who is involved in cooking at the brewery, will compete in the Chopped competition at Fun Fest Saturday and an overview of the brewing process will be given between the two rounds of the cooking competition.

In May, a Kentucky Derby Day will be held at the brewery. Anyone who wears a derby hat will receive 10 percent off food purchases. A Beer Mint Julep and Southern Mint Tea will also be sold that day.

The brewery has been open since last spring and local beers are brewed right on site by a system created by co-owners Larry and Jerry Rolison. Bill Bunning is in charge of brewing the beers and brings a wealth of experience to the table as he has been involved in home brewing for more than 20 years.

In addition to beer, the Ye Olde Brothers offers a family friendly dining experience featuring a variety of delicious entrees and brick-oven pizza. There is a happy hour every Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Customers who stop in certainly won’t leave the brewery disappointed.
